Musée Opinel

Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne

The Museum welcomes you all year round to discover the history of the famous Savoyard knife. From the old forge to the filmed presentation of today's workshops, you'll learn all about the evolution of knife-making.

Description

In 1890, Joseph Opinel (1872–1960) created the first Opinel knife in the small hamlet of Gevoudaz, near Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne. His small pocket knife, stamped with the La Main Couronnée® trademark since 1909, quickly became a success both nationally and internationally. Since the early 20th century, the family-owned business has come a long way! Now manufactured in Chambéry, Opinel knives are sold in more than 70 countries around the world.
As you leave the museum, stop by the gift shop where you can have your knives engraved, and enjoy the lounge/bar area with its terrace!

Tours end 30 minutes before the museum closes.
